Picking the right sparring gear needs to be based on more than price alone. Too many people buy the in-expensive gear- BIG mistake!

When sparring, especially children, the competitors need to know that they will not feel any  pain. They need to know that if they get caught, they will not get hurt. There are several conditioning drills designed to build confidence in their equipment. I have seen it too many times- children are sparring and they clash shins. If you opted for the cheaper equipment, this is where you will pay for not going with the higher quality equipment. The cheaper equipment does not have the right amount of padding in the right areas and as a result, your child's sparring career may be over.

Brand name equipment like Daedo or Adidas, sure they come with a heftier price tag, but the equipment is of much better quality. I used to sell the sock-type shin and forearm protection. True, it is a lot less expensive but it also lasts only a few months.

These videos will show you some of the things to consider when purchasing sparring gear
